Alcohol poisoning kills 6 Americans a day

1A report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that at least 6 people die of alcohol poisoning every day. That makes it 2,221 people annually.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the data was gathered from 2010 to 2012 from various death certificates. Alcohol poisoning is one of the leading preventable causes of death according to the center.
Alcohol poisoning happens after a person consumes a toxic amount of alcohol. It happens after a usual binge drinking. Binge drinking in men is consuming five or more alcoholic beverages between two to three hours according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. For women, it is consuming four or more drinks at the same period.
Apparently, a different research showed that at least 38 million Americans consume eight drinks between two to three hours. They do these at least four times a month.
According to experts, alcohol poisoning occurs when your liver cannot keep up with the amount of alcohol you consumed. Since alcohol is a toxin, your liver has to filter it out of your blood. If your liver cannot filter everything because of your binge drinking, it will go with your blood. High concentration of alcohol in your blood can affect your mental and physical health. This can lead to slowed heartbeat and gag reflex that can cause a person to pass out or stop breathing. This is now alcohol poisoning.
A recent study also shows that teenagers doesn’t suffer much from alcohol poisoning despite their binge drinking. A data from CDC shows that white men between the ages of 35 and 64 are dying most often from alcohol poisoning. That is 76 percent of the deaths caused by alcohol poisoning.
When it comes to state, Alaska has the most alcohol poisoning related deaths while Alabama has the least.
