Meeting the Ivatans – Team Promising Goes to Batanes

For our first travel this 2017, the group decided to take the challenge of Batanes. Batanes is always connected to words like ‘breathtaking’, ‘beautiful’ and ‘scenic’. With only PAL and SkyJet flying from Manila to Batanes (with a fare slightly higher than other domestic flights), the decision to take on Batanes this summer was a big one yet a very worthwhile decision.
Welcome to Batanes Airport!

Things to know:

  • The archipelago of Batanes is part of the Cagayan Valley Region in the northern part of the Philippines. It is like the archipelago of the Philippines, divided into different islands yet smaller.
  • Batanes is composed of 11 islands with only three being inhabited by humans: Batan Island, Sabtang Island and Itbayat Island. The capital town, Basco is located in Batan Island.
  • There are three main tours offered by most tour agencies in Batanes – North Batan Tour, South Batan Tour and Sabtang Tour. There is a special tour that can be arranged for Itbayat if guests want to.
  • For the three main tours, tour can be taken while riding a van or tricycle.
  • There are a lot of lodges and hotels that can accommodate guests in Batanes. Booking in advance is still advisable though for added comfort.
  • ATM is now available in Basco. PNB has just opened with a working ATM hence people who might find themselves short with cash can now withdraw and buy more “pasalubongs”.
  • Bicycle for rent is also available in Basco. If you love biking, it is best to stay with lodges near the airport. It is where most restaurants are also located.
  • To better feel your Batanes getaway, it is best to stay at least 6 or 7 days. If you can stay longer, the better. Weather in Batanes changes drastically so if you want the perfect weather for picture taking purposes, you better have extra days in case it rains.
