Welcome to Sumaguing Cave |
Once you visited Sagada, you have to experience caving or what
they call “spelunking.”
Sumaguing Cave adventure is one of the most challenging challenges
in Sagada because it is not just about being adventurous and strength, it is
also about being brave and willingness to go through all the challenges in
order complete it.
at Sumaguing Cave's entrance |
For our brief stint in Sagada, we decided to do the
Sumaguing Cave adventure alone. For braver souls and if you have plenty of time
in Sagada, you can do the cave connection that involved crossing three caves.
While waiting for the debriefing |
Prior to entering Sumaguing Cave, our guide gave us a brief introduction
of what we will see and experience inside the cave. The guides also gave us
some do’s and don’ts to avoid any accident.
Guide Fee
For cave adventure, the fee is P600 per guide for every
three people. This is pretty reasonable because they will carry you if they
have to, guide you as needed and will carry a light for you.

How to go to Sumaguing Cave
Entrance to Suamguing Cave is around 20-30 minutes’ walk
from the town proper. Tour guides might offer you a ride for additional fee to
take you there but I would suggest to just walk it off. If you will walk, you’ll
get to enjoy the view and the cold weather of Sagada.
Ang tamang daan! |
What to prepare
A soft slipper will do. Clothes to change with after caving.
What to expect
Water. Darkness. Bats. Awesome stalactite formations and
other rock formations.
What to do once you get there
Use your imagination!
Luckily, we had fun tour guides with us during our Sumaguing
Cave adventure and with their playful imaginations, they told us a lot of
stories about the stalactite and stalagmite formations within the cave.
