Mt Kalisungan Adventure (Team Promising goes to Mt Kalisungan)

Hiking is one of the things I wanted to do for a long time so when a friend invited me, I didn’t think twice about it.
We were all first timers except for the main guy who planned the hike so he chose an easy one for us- Mt. Kalisungan.
Mt. Kalisungan, located at Calauan, Laguna is considered as a level 1 climb. There are numbers of mountains in Laguna and Mt. Kalisungan is one of the smaller ones, good for first timer like me. It is 760 MASL and it will take at least 3-4 hours to reach its summit.
The group met at 4 in the morning in Cubao since the plan was to finish the climb after noon so we can still have time visit one of the hot spring resorts in Calamba. Unfortunately, two things changed our plan, there was a typhoon landing in Visayas and most of us were first timers. But still nothing can stop us!
On our way to Mt. Kalisungan
before the climb begins
We reached the jump off site around eight in the morning, met our tour guide and started our climb. It was raining already. After a few hours of walking under non-stop rain, we found out that Manila is already under storm signal number 1. Typhoon Amang was with us on our first climb of Mt. Kalisungan.

It took us three hours and a half to reach the summit. After an hour of climbing, you can start seeing the ground, appreciate the heights and enjoy the view. Unfortunately, since Amang is with us, the fog got thicker as we got higher. When we reached the summit, all we can see was each other- wet, cold and hungry. Regardless of the weather, everyone was so happy and proud that we reached the summit despite the bad weather.
We did it!!!

According to our guide, the trail we followed was designed for first timers. The trails were not too steep.
I would say going down was harder than climbing. The good thing was there were common grass along the way that we can hold on to make it easier. Our guide’s confidence in us was too strong as well so he walked too fast and left most of us while coming down. One of our team member had to climb down on her own after being left behind.

the steepest part of the climb!
Luckily for me, I was with three other people and we decided to stay together.
A few things after our Mount Kalisungan climb, we met new friends, we realized our talents in grabbing on to anything to avoid falling, we pushed our limits, we had a lot pf picture and fun memories and we appreciated body pain.

Garbage bag is a good protection against the rain.
the summit! that's it yes.
